Cancer Statistics in Mexico

At this rate of growth, it is estimated that for 2030 there will be 12 million deaths of cancer worldwide, nearly all the population of the capital of Mexico.

  • 120,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year.
  • More than 70,000 Mexicans die each year from cancer.
  • 176 Mexicans die every day from cancer
  • 7 Mexicans die every hour because of cancer
  • Every two hours a woman dies of breast cancer
  • Cancer is the second leading cause of infant death in Mexico and can also generate disabilities.
  • There are only 130 pediatric oncologists in the country.
  • It is estimated that 15% of children with cancer in Mexico never receive specialized treatment, so the mortality of this group is absolute.
  • Each year, 8,000 new children suffer from some type of cancer.
  • INEGI acknowledged 2.650 deaths of children with cancer in 2005.
  • There is a high dropout rate of treatment due to the lack of economic resources.
  • There are no homologous procedures by type of cancer.      
    The protocols used in Mexico have been overtaken by international standards.
  • 40% of children who are cured will suffer significant consequences.

Even the most renowned institutions lack of adequate facilities to provide quality treatment.
 
Even so, 70% of cancer is curable when detected on time and appropriate treatment is provided.
