ORITEL
The International Organization of Telethons (ORITEL by its Spanish acronym) is the group of Latin American countries that inspires unity and brotherhood through the promotion of human and cultural values, such as support for various social assistance projects, with emphasis on people with disabilities.
ORITEL represents one of the largest promoting organizations of volunteer aid in the world; it has an impact in about 400 million of the population and promotes continental fraternity through the promotion of human and cultural values among the people to unify efforts.
ORITEL is formed by Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. These 11 countries have succeeded in generating a sense of togetherness and to exchange of experiences, also in achieving a cultural impact on the issue of disability worldwide.
Objectives
- To promote an alliance with mass media of Latin American countries to raise awareness on disability issues, conducting or supporting campaigns on the rights and needs of people with disabilities.
- Impulse international solidarity among communities, individuals, public and private organizations, with the goal of provide financial support to institutions that work in favor of disability.
- Coordinate the use of the available human and material resources for child rehabilitation in national and international institutions of Latin America, in order to promote among them the exchange of scientific, technological, diagnostic and medical treatment knowledge for disability.
- Encourage the creation of legal standards for Latin American that recognize the rights of persons with disabilities, that eliminate discrimination and that generate precautionary measures oriented to prevent accidents that induce disabilities.
- Organize, promote and finance the training of medical and paramedical personnel.
